Are you an introvert and do you find it difficult to get enough speaking time during meetings or to get the most out of a job interview? Those are things that many introverts struggle with, but you can actually make them easier for yourself. A few tips to succeed at work as an introvert.

Prepare well

Good preparation is key for introverts. Because introverts think first and then speak, it is very important to prepare well for meetings and presentations, and even more so for job interviews. That way you will not be faced with unexpected situations and you can be sure that you are making the contribution you want to make. You can even practice a few times to make sure you get it right.

Go for personal contact

Introverts often find it difficult to get to know people in a group setting. If possible, go for a one on one instead, to get the most out of your connections skills. Introverts are good listeners, and during these types of personal conversations you can really get to know someone well by asking lots of questions and being genuinely interested. That will also help you feel more comfortable in a new place faster.

Get informed

Are you applying for a job at a new company? Then make sure you are well aware of that company by reading a little more about it first. What kind of people work there? And how are the offices set up? That kind of information can help you feel more comfortable as soon as you have the interview, because you already know a little more about the company.

Make yourself heard

Some introverts tend to suddenly start talking very quickly, in order to get out of the spotlight as quickly as possible. Or they mumble, because they prefer not to draw attention to themselves. But if you want your message to really get across, don't be afraid to tell your story in a calm and clear voice. Introverts are often well prepared and once they speak they offer interesting stories. Trust that you will captivate your audience.

Find a quiet spot

In today's large offices, it can sometimes be quite difficult as an introvert to be able to concentrate properly. There's distraction all around you and every sound can make you lose your concentration. If you really want to focus, make sure you find a quiet place to work. And also tell this to your colleagues, so that they won't go looking for you. As an introvert you sometimes need some quiet time, so don't blame yourself for actually taking it.
