As a coach, I talk to introverts on a daily basis. But what does it mean to be an introvert? Here are ten things you may not have known about introversion:

  1. Introverts are not necessarily shy
Many people assume that introverts are shy, but that's not necessarily true. While introverts may prefer quieter, more introspective activities, shyness is a separate trait that can be present in both introverts and extroverts.

  2. Introverts can be great public speakers
Although public speaking may seem like a daunting task for introverts, they can actually be great at it. They tend to prepare thoroughly, practice beforehand, and deliver thoughtful, well-crafted speeches.

  3. Introverts are not necessarily unassertive
Just because introverts may not be as vocal as extroverts doesn't mean they're unassertive. Introverts can be assertive in their own way, such as through thoughtful, well-timed communication.

  4. Introverts can enjoy socializing
While introverts may prefer quieter, more low-key social activities, they can still enjoy socializing. They just need time to recharge and may prefer smaller, more intimate gatherings.

  5. Introverts need alone time to recharge
Introverts gain their energy from being alone and need time to recharge after socializing or being in stimulating environments. This is different from extroverts, who gain energy from being around people.

  6. Introverts can be great leaders
Introverts can make great leaders because they tend to be good listeners, thoughtful decision-makers, and can inspire others through their actions rather than just their words.

  7. Introverts are often very creative
Many introverts have a rich inner world and can be very creative. They may prefer to express their creativity through solitary activities such as writing, painting, or playing music.

  8. Introverts are always seeking to grow and develop
Introverts are often very self-aware and seek to learn and grow. They take time to reflect on their experiences and what they've learned, which helps them continue to develop and grow personally.

  9. Introverts often have deep relationships
Introverts tend to value quality over quantity when it comes to relationships. They can build deep connections with others because they're good listeners and pay attention to others' needs.

  10. Introverts often have a strong sense of empathy
Introverts tend to be sensitive to others' emotions and can empathize with them. This makes them empathetic and able to support others in times of need.
